For All the People I've Never Seen

The Forest of Delusion
is where we spend our days.
We have four eyes between us
yet I never meet your gaze.
I ban you from my dreams at night
in case you weigh them down.
When you tiptoe past my thoughts by day
you never make a sound.
You stay out of sight
and I’ll stay out of mind,
and walking around this big blue ball
we may never meet at all.
But when we reach the tree line
and walk into the sun,
I will recognize you
my long forgotten friend.
So do forgive my rudeness,
my negligence and doubt,
the towering superstitions,
crouching fears and inhibitions,
twisting judgment and begrudgment
that always keep you out
of sight and mind and heart,
but never out of soul -
that bright and spacious part
of me where only love can grow.
I'll meet you at the tree line
my long forgotten friend.
Beyond the shade my mind has made
the light will let you in.
